The Lot-et-Garonne region is primarily agricultural with the area around Cancon specialising in hazelnuts. NOISETTES!  The Lot Valley grows a wide variety of fruit trees, in particular plums (pruneaux d’Agen) and borders the well known wine growing areas of Bordeaux, Bergerac, Cahors and  Duras.  The unspoiled countryside is interspersed with bastide villages famous for their covered arcades, beautiful architecture and churches.

The village of Cancon is situated between Bergerac, 30 minutes north, Villeneuve-sur-Lot, 15 minutes south and Monflanquin, 10 minutes east.  Maison Collette is in the old part of the village with its narrow cobbled streets and half timbered houses, some dating back to the 15th and 16th century.


On the hill above the old quarter sits the ruin of a medieval chateau with its beautiful 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding countryside.

The larger towns of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and Bergerac have modern, out-of-town shopping centres together with attractive, medieval old towns offering boutiques, open-air cafes and restaurants, cinemas, theatres and concerts.

 

 

In the summer months local villages offer a wide variety of entertainments including fetes, pageants, evening markets (a must!), trotting races, clay pigeon shoots, fishing competitions and petanque. In the area there are many leisure activities and places of interest including two golf courses, canoeing, swimming, riding, boat trips, vineyards, museums, chateaux, prehistoric caves and gardens (one of which houses the national collection of water lilies).
